Histoplasma capsulatum, the causative agent of the most common systemic fungal infection,
histoplasmosis, has become subject to increasing study in parallel with rising prevalence of
human immunodeficiency. This review presents a summary of the advances made in the
investigation of H. capsulatum genomics, molecular epidemiology, pathogenesis, and
molecular genetics.
