Abstract This issue of Protein Profile deals with the rapidly growing superfamily of nuclear
receptors. It was difficult to fix a deadline for the compilation of data, as continuously novel
and exciting studies were published while this manuscript was in preparation.
Consequently, the bulk of citations considers papers published until October 1994.
However, we also incorporated, on a nonsystematic basis, several studies that we felt
