The Draus book makes some excellent points, among them the fact that TB is not just on the rise in urban America, it is the product of social and racial neglect, and is "manufactured" by conditions that have little to do with patient attitudes, and much more to do with the social net that enfolds the patient. It is a point well worth considering at a time when social cuts, and the disintegration of old health care networks are a growing problem.
